CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER REQUESTED TO MAINTAIN LAW AND ORDER DURING POLLING

Bhubaneswar: Shri Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha held a meeting with the representatives of various recognized political parties. In the meeting, the EC pointed out the polling in Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Berhampur parliamentary constituencies and 28 assembly constituencies under it in the fourth phase of the election. The Chief Electoral Officer expressed satisfaction as the average voter turnout in this phase was 75.68 percent.

Mr. Dhal informed about how the people of all categories participated in the great festival of democracy, starting from Swabiman region. At this time, the chief election officer expressed concern over the pre-election violence in Khalikot of Ganjam district. Mr. Dhal made it clear that violence has no place in a democracy and any kind of law and order situation will not be tolerated.

The Chief Electoral Officer requested everyone to participate in the grand celebration of democracy in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere during the next three polls. In this meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer requested the political parties to provide women polling agents in all Sakhi booths. Along with this, he requested to provide ‘identity card’ to all the polling agents.
