Human Centric Globalization: Taking the G-20 to the Final Stage, Leaving No One Out- PM Modi

RF Bureau: ‘Vasudheeva Kutumbakam’ – these two words of our Indian culture contain a deep philosophical thought. It means, ‘The whole world is one family’. It is a universal vision that encourages us to progress as a public family. A family where there will be no boundaries, language and ideology. During India’s G-20 chairmanship, this consideration has manifested itself in the challenge of human-centered progress. As ‘One World’, we come together to improve human life. We are helping each other to grow as a family. We are moving forward together towards a brighter future for a more equal future.

The world after the corona epidemic is completely different from the time before it. Apart from many other changes, three important changes have taken place in recent times.

First,

The world now needs to move towards a human-centric perspective rather than a GDP-centric perspective, and this reality has now been realized by everyone.

Secondly,

The whole world is now emphasizing the strength and reliability of the global supply chain. Third, the collective challenge to promote multilateralism through reforms in global institutions has now emerged. Our G-20 presidency is playing a catalytic role in these changes.

When we took over the G-20 chairmanship from Indonesia in December 2022, I said that the G-20 should be a vehicle for changing the mindset. It is especially needed to bring the neglected aspirations of the developing countries, South Global Nations and African countries into the mainstream.

With this aim, India organized the ‘Voice of Global South Summit’ and 125 countries participated in it. It was one of the most important efforts organized under the Indian presidency. It was an important effort to know the opinions and experiences of the southern world nations. Apart from this, under our presidency, only African countries have seen the largest partnership in recent years. India has also insisted on including the African Union as a permanent member of the G-20.

Our world is interconnected, which means that our problems in various fields are also interconnected. The interim period of the 2030 Agenda is now underway and many countries are expressing concern about the long-term development goals (SDGs) being missed. The G-20 2023 Action Plan will set the way forward to accelerate progress on the SDGs. This will pave the way for achieving the SDGs.

Since ancient times, India has adopted the ideal of progress in harmony with nature. Even in modern times, we are contributing to climate action.

Many countries in the Global South are at different stages of development and climate action should be focused on at this time. Along with the ambition of climate action, we must also focus on climate finance and technology transfer. We need to change the punitive approach to tackling climate change. Instead of focusing on “what should not be done”, there is a need to focus on “what can be done”. Chennai HLP is committed to keeping our oceans clean for a strong and sustainable blue economy.

With a Green Garden Innovation Center under our chairmanship, a global ecosystem related to clean and green gardens will be created. In 2015, we launched the International Solar Mint. Now, through the Global Biofuels Initiative, we will contribute to making the world fuel-convertible. This will allow the benefits of the circular economy to reach more people.

Publicizing climate action is the best way to get the movement moving. Just as people make decisions in their daily lives based on their health, they can make decisions about their lifestyles based on their impact on the health of the planet. Just as yoga has become a global mass movement, we promote ‘Lifestyle for Sustainable Environment’ (LIFE).

As a result of climate change, ensuring food and nutrition security will become a major challenge. Millets or Sri Anna can be very helpful in dealing with this. Mr. Anna is also promoting climate friendly agriculture. During the International Year of Millets, we have brought Srianna to the world. Special help can be obtained from ‘The Deccan High Level Principles on Food Securities and Nutrition’.

Change can come through technology, but it also needs to be met. In the past, the benefits of technological progress did not accrue equally to all sections of society. In the past few years, India has shown the world how inequality can be overcome by taking advantage of technology. For example, billions of people around the world who do not have access to banks, or digital identities, can be financially included through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

The world is seeing the results we have achieved using DPI. Everyone admits it. Now, through the G-20, we will help developing countries adopt, develop and scale up DPI; So that they can gain the power of collective development.

It is no accident that India has become the fastest growing economy. Our simple, practical and sustainable approach empowers the weak and marginalized to lead our development journey. From space to sports, from economics to entrepreneurship, Indian women are making strides in various fields. India today has moved ahead of women’s development and is moving forward under the spell of women-led development. Our G-20 Presidency is working towards closing the gender digital divide, narrowing the labor force participation gap and enabling a greater role for women in decision-making processes. For India, the G-20 chairmanship is not only a high-level diplomatic effort, we have opened the door to this experience to the world in the form of a model of democracy and diversity.

When it comes to doing something on a large scale, the name of India easily comes to mind. The G-20 presidency is no exception. It has become a mass movement in India. During our G-20 presidency, we have already organized more than 2000 meetings in 60 cities in India. At this time, we have hosted nearly 100,000 delegates from 125 countries. No other country’s presidency has covered such a vast and diverse geographical spread.

It is one thing to hear about India’s population, democracy, diversity and development from someone else and it is quite another to experience it firsthand. I am confident that our G-20 representatives will realize this themselves. Our G-20 chairmanship strives to bridge divisions, remove barriers and deepen cooperation. Our thoughts have created a world where unity transcends all differences, where common goals have ended divisive thinking. As G-20 Chairs, we are committed to making the world stage even wider, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and that every country can contribute. I strongly believe that we have been able to fulfill our mission with work and tangible results.
