CANWALK event draws support and awareness for childhood cancer

Bhubaneswar, Sampad Sahoo: February 3, 2024 – hundreds of participants gathered at Buddha Park in Bhubaneswar for the CANWALK (Cancer Walkathon) event, organized by the Navodaya Alumni Association of Odisha and proudly supported by the Umeedein Foundation. The event aimed to raise awareness about cancer while promoting physical activity and community engagement.

Under the crisp morning sky, over 120 attendees from Navodayans around the Odisha in view of 7th NAAO Annual Meet gathered enthusiastically.
The walkathon, scheduled from 7:30 am to 9:30 am, kicked off with a warm welcome from organizers and dignitaries.
This walkathon was a pre-meet to the mega gala event which shall be organised at the Rail Auditorium, Bhubaneswar on 4th February, Sunday.

Dr. Nirmalya, a renowned oncologist, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the importance of early detection and holistic care in battling cancer. Additionally, the presence of co founder of Umeedein Foundation, Shri Nitai Panigrahi highlighted the collaborative efforts driving the event’s success.
Participants, donning white CANWALK t-shirts, embarked on a scenic walk through the Niladri Vihar locality, symbolizing solidarity with cancer patients and survivors. Along the route, volunteers distributed educational materials on childhood cancer prevention, treatment options, and support resources.

“This event is more than just a walk; it’s a statement of our collective commitment to fighting childhood cancer,” remarked Mr. Ashabhanu Swain, President of the Navodaya Alumni Association of Odisha. “Together, we can make a difference and offer hope to those affected by this disease.”

The CANWALK event received overwhelming community support. The vibrant atmosphere resonated with optimism and resilience, inspiring participants to continue advocating for childhood cancer awareness and which is curable.

Reflecting on the event’s impact, Dr Manoj Das, Ex JNV Principal and event attendee, shared, “Today’s walkathon signifies hope and unity. It reminds us that we’re not alone in our fight against cancer and that together, we can overcome any challenge.

As the sun rose higher in the sky, participants concluded the walkathon with renewed energy and determination to champion the cause of childhood cancer awareness and support. The CANWALK event served as a poignant reminder of the power of community-driven initiatives in fostering positive change and offering hope in the face of adversity.

The Navodaya Alumni Association of Odisha and the Umeedein Foundation expressed their gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors for their unwavering support and commitment to making a difference in the fight against cancer.
