Puri: Today is World Earth Hour. Every year the last Saturday of March is celebrated as World Earth Hour for the protection of the earth. On this day, people switch off their unnecessary lights for 1 hour. Unnecessary lights in your home, office are turned off. This is the purpose of observing Earth Hour. Such steps are being taken to build a beautiful future. On this day, electricity is cut in every house for about an hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM to save energy.

Coal is burned for power generation, which emits black smoke or carbon in large amount and gets into the atmosphere as a result of severe heat wave, lightning, weight loss, floods, storms and droughts. The environment cannot maintain its balance. In view of this continuous abnormal change in climate, for the first time in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, 22 million people turned off all the lights for 1 hour and celebrated ‘Earth Hour’.

Today from 8:30 to 9:30, devotees will celebrate this day by turning off all the lights at home for one hour. On this occasion, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik gave a message of awareness through sand art. This day is celebrated to create an awareness message among the people to prevent wastage of electricity and protect the environment. Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik made a sand painting in Puri and called the countrymen to celebrate Earth Hour. Sudarsan Pattnaik has created this beautiful sand art at Niladri beach of Puri beach.
