New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu has approved the Women’s Protection Bill. The President has given his assent to the Women’s Empowerment Act. After the President’s assent, the bill became law. The Government of India has issued a gazette notification in this regard.
After the signature of Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Women’s Shakti Bandhan Act Bill was sent for President’s assent on Thursday. After the bill becomes law, reservation of 33 per cent seats for women in Lok Sabha and Assembly will be ensured. Similarly, by amending Article 239(a) of the Constitution, women will be protected in the Delhi Assembly as well. This law will remain in force for 15 years.
Earlier this month, the bill was unanimously passed in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in a special session of Parliament. It was introduced in Parliament as the Women’s Shakti Bandan Act Bill. The Prime Minister said that the bill will pave the way for women’s self-confidence after it is passed by both houses of Parliament.
