Sambalpur: While low pressure rains are continuing in most parts of the state, the water level of various rivers is increasing. Among them, HIrakud Gate has been opened today. Like every year, this year also the Swiss Gate of Hirakud Reservoir has been opened according to traditional rituals. According to curve rule, to control the water level of Hirakud Reservoir, the Swiss gate of Hirakud Reservoir was opened today and the first flood water of the year was removed.

Sluice gate number 7 of the dam was first opened at 9:00 am after the puja. 20 gates of Hirakud will be opened in 3 phases. While 7 gates have been opened now, 7 more gates will be opened after 12:00. Similarly, six more gates will be opened after 2 pm. The water storage capacity of Hirakud Reservoir is 630 cubic feet and by 6 am there is 616.93 cubic feet of water. 3 lakh 16 thousand 600 cubic feet of flood water is entering the reservoir. 40 thousand 126 cubic feet of flood water is discharged. Flood water will reach Mundali after next 36 hours. A warning has been given to the District Collectors of 13 districts of the state. However, a warning has been issued that no fisherman or any person should enter the river during this period.

The dam authorities decided to open the gate less than three days later due to the continuous increase in the water level of the Hirakud Reservoir due to the rain above. Necessary preparations were made. The people living downstream of Hirakud Dam were informed about the opening of the gate. Sambalpur, Hirakud and Burla were preached through mic. As the gate is being opened, the Hirakuda Dam authorities warned people not to enter the river and its tributaries downstream.
