New Delhi: After implementing the central plan, the central government is in confrontation with some state governments. Some non-BJP-ruled states have expressed their displeasure in implementing the PMShri scheme, which has been heavily politicized. Delhi, Punjab and West Bengal are keen to participate in PMShri scheme. The Center has stopped providing the entire education campaign-SSS funds to the three non-BJP ruled states due to non-implementation of the PMShri scheme.
States like Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Odisha initially stayed away from the PMShri scheme, which was launched in 2022, but they agreed to implement the scheme in March this year. However, Delhi, Punjab and West Bengal are still away from the plan.
The Prime Minister’s School for Rising India – PMShri scheme was launched in 2022. A total budget of 27 thousand 360 crore rupees has been prepared for the PMShri scheme to run till 2026-27. Out of this, 60 percent of the central government and the remaining 40 percent of the state government are to be borne. The main objective of the PMShri scheme is to develop at least 15,000 government schools as model schools across the country.
As the governments of Delhi, Punjab and West Bengal have not agreed to the PMShri scheme, the Center has stopped providing the entire education campaign-SSA funds to those states. It has been reported that the Center has decided not to give SSA funds to states that have not implemented the PMShri scheme.
So why are the three states reluctant to implement the PMShri scheme? According to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and Punjab, the School of Eminence scheme is being implemented in the two states. So there is no need for PMShri scheme. The objection of West Bengal grassroots Congress is completely different. The name of the scheme is PMShri, so the grassroots government has objected. It was argued that the state government will also bear 40 percent of the cost for the scheme. So the name of PMShri Yojana should not be mentioned.
The opinion has been expressed that it is not right to withhold funds under the entire education campaign-SSS to the three states as they have not implemented the PMShri scheme. Experts have said that such a move is against the federal system.
