Palm kernels from Gajapati got GI status

Gajapati: The palm kernels of Gajapati district have got the geographical code or GI tag status. Gud farmers of Gajapati have been sitting on the idea for a long time and their demands have been fulfilled today. After getting the GI tag, the demand for it will increase even more abroad and many unemployed people will be able to get employment, the intellectual Mahal has expressed hope.

The main means of livelihood of hundreds of tribals of Gajapati district are mainly three types of palm kernels, namely: Dusty Gud, Checka Gud and Liquid Gud. Date palm juice collected in natural way is prepared biologically, which has a unique taste and is very useful for health. Palm trees are abundant in the foothills of Gajapati district. Out of them, the tribes of the solar race prepare palm kernels. However, on June 12, 2020, an application was made to give it GI status, and today it has been given GI status.
In 1959, the government launched a project named Talgud Project at R.Udayagiri Block Lubrication in Gajapati district for small farmers. After the construction of the project, slowly the farmers are getting income by preparing talgud using palm juice. More than 1200 farmers have benefited from this project. About 600 quintals of gud are prepared every year.
