Bhubaneswar: A small testing center for the weapons of the country will be built by DRDO in Junput village of West Bengal. The new project of DIRD will be built in West Bengal like Chandipur Missile Ghat. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has started implementing a project for construction. The official informed. Like Odisha’s Chandipur missile, Junput is also known for its Integrated Test Range (ITR). This place is located in the Bay of Bengal.
The ITA at Chandipur near Balasore is overwhelmed with examination-related work and an additional operational area is required. Since its inception, DRDO has aimed to design and develop advanced sensors, weapon systems, platforms and equipment for land, air, sea, space, cyber defense and security, the official said.
A DRDO official said that since timely testing of weapons is of utmost importance, plans are underway for an additional operational area at Junput near Digha, about 70 km from Chandipur. Junput is 177 km from Kolkata and 40 km from Digha, a popular sea resort town.
The official said, “Located in the coastal area of West Bengal, the proposed site covers 8.73 acres of land and also meets the required safety criteria. The project has been recommended by the Central and West Bengal governments. The test site has been approved by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
