Indian star women’s shooter Manu Bhaker put on a spectacular performance on the first day of the Paris Olympics yesterday. 22-year-old female shooter Manu Bhaker scored 580 points out of 600 in the qualifying round and took the third place out of 45 competitors. In the air pistol final, Manu Bhaker was third and won the bronze medal by scoring 221.7 points. Manu Bhaker achieved a historic victory for India and won the first medal for India in the current Paris Olympics.
Manu is the fifth Indian shooter to win a medal at the Olympics. In 2004, in Athens Olympics, India won its first medal in the Olympics. Later Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won silver in the double trap event. In 2008, Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal in 10m air rifle in Beijing. It was the first gold for India in an individual sport. However, Manu won gold medals in the World Championship, ISSF World Cup, Asian Shooting Championship, Asian Airgun Championship, State Sports, Youth Olympic Games, World University Games, ISSF Junior World Cup and Junior Championship.
