Bhubaneswar: No new diphtheria patients have been detected in Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi for two days. However, after the death of a child under treatment due to diphtheria a day ago, the number of deaths due to diphtheria in the state has reached 6. To improve the situation of infection, 18 villages in Kashipur block have been kept as containment zones.
Vaccination was done in two villages of Kashipur block on Wednesday and 13 villages were vaccinated on Thursday. So far 436 people have been given booster doses. It includes both children and adults. 14 teams are engaged in vaccination work. Besides, surveillance will be done in Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangari.
On the other hand, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said, ICMR team has been sent to deal with diphtheria. Similarly, people are being made aware.
