CYCLONE ‘REMAL’ MADE LANDFALL, CAUSING WIDESPREAD DAMAGE IN WEST BENGAL AND BANGLADESH

Kolkata: Cyclone Remal has started making landfall in the Bay of Bengal. It has made landfall on the Bangladesh side of the West Bengal coast between Saga Island and Khepupara. This process continued for about 4 hours. At the time of landfall, the wind speed is around 120 km. At 8:30 PM, Remal was centered 130 km from Sagar Deep, 140 km from Khepupara and 160 km from Mongla (Bangladesh).

After the landfall, sandstorms have started forming in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and adjacent West Bengal. As a result, ‘Remal’ caused extensive damage in West Bengal and Bangladesh. Large trees were uprooted in various places and houses were destroyed. Rains are still continuing in West Bengal and Bangladesh. The storm crossed the coast of Bangladesh and West Bengal as a strong storm between 10:30 and 12:30. Due to the impact of the storm, the sea is turbulent in the North Bay of Bengal.

The severe storm is gradually weakening and has moved towards the north. However, while crossing the land, Cyclone Remal has been seen forming a storm in many parts of West Bengal coast and Bangladesh. In many places, the wind is blowing at a speed of 110 to 120 km per hour and large trees have fallen on the road. Similarly, high waves have been seen in the sea. There is no clear picture of the storm’s damage and casualties.

Although the impact of this storm on Odisha is not significant, heavy rain has been seen in some districts of coastal Odisha. Due to the impact of the storm, it has rained all night in coastal Odisha. Heavy rain has been seen in various places of Jajpur, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur districts. On the other hand, while the weather has brought some relief for two days, the Regional Meteorological Center has estimated that the temperature will rise again in the state from today.
