Bhubaneswar: The central government has announced the auction of 67 coal mines in 8 states including Odisha. Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday launched the 10th round of auctions of explored coal mines in Hyderabad.
These mines are located in the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Telangana. Among them there are 3 coking coal mines.
On this occasion, the Union Minister called upon the coal entrepreneurs to cooperate for the development of the country and to make India self-reliant in coal production.
Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey has assured that all possible assistance will be provided to coal mine allottees for ease of doing business. The ministry is taking suggestions and opinions from the mining world to improve the coal sector.
It is worth noting that the ministry has already auctioned 107 coal mines with a peak rated capacity of 256 million tons in the last 9 phases. Commercial coal mining auctions started in 2020. So far 11 commercial coal mines have been operationalized.
