A unit of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed a lightweight bulletproof jacket for protection against high-level threats. This jacket is based on a new design method, where modern manufacturing materials are used along with new processes. The jacket was successfully tested at the Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh.

The statement given by the Ministry of Defense has given information about this jacket. DRDO considers this newly developed jacket as the lightest bulletproof jacket in the country. Along with the new technology, this jacket has also been equipped with a few things that make it lighter than the previous jackets. After losing weight, it can provide protection against the highest risk level 6. This jacket can withstand many powerful bullets. The jacket has been developed by DRDO’s Defense Materials and Stores Research and Development Institute, Kanpur. This bulletproof jacket is capable of providing protection against 7.62 X 54 R API bullets.

According to information, this new bullet proof jacket is designed in such a way that it will be easy for security forces personnel to wear it. The image of the new bullet proof jacket has also been revealed by DRDO. The jackets previously used by the security forces are very heavy. In such a situation, it had to be worn constantly and worked hard to perform the duty. Now this lightweight jacket solves many problems.
